MoovChat
Direct messages and team rooms for real-time chat inside MoovMail.
Access
Open /moovchat from the inbox rail icon (when your plan includes moovchat). You can also go directly to MoovChat after signing in.
Direct chat
- One-to-one chat between two MoovMail users.
- Search finds people in your organization; you can also enter any active MoovMail address.
- Messages can be sent while the other person is offline — they appear when they return.
- Sent messages show Read with a timestamp after the recipient opens the chat.
Rooms: Collaboration vs Announcements
When you create a room, choose a purpose. This controls who can post — not who can join. Only people you invite can access a private room.
Collaboration
Everyone can chat, share updates, and work together.
- All invited members can read and send messages.
- Best for projects, daily standups, and team discussions.
- Everyone sees unread counts and can participate equally.
Announcements
Broadcast updates. Only owners and admins can post.
- Only room owners and admins can post new messages.
- Members can read updates but the composer is read-only for them.
- Best for HR updates, company news, and policy broadcasts.

Presence and read state
- Default status — users appear Offline until they open MoovChat while signed in.
- Logout — signing out sets chat status to offline immediately.
- Your status — set Online, Busy, or Offline from the MoovChat sidebar. Add an optional custom status message.
- Direct chat — you can start a chat with anyone in your organization even if they appear offline. Messages deliver when they return.
- Unread counts — appear in the sidebar until you open the conversation.
- Read receipts — in direct chats, messages you send show Sent until the other person reads them, then Read · time.
